  • YAHHHHH!!!!!!

I say that with the utmost respect. I'm a church person.
We (Dan, Jake and I), just got back from attending an event that Dan and Jake played in in Rochester Michigan. Called "Transformation Michigan" it is an effort to unite prayer for Michigan to return hearts to the Lord-- organizing Christians across the state to fulfill the scripture "if my people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray, I will hear from heaven and heal their land." It's quite an event, and was interesting to be an observer/participator. Participating in that I sat in the audience and sang a little. That was my contribution.

It was held at an Assembly of God church, and these people don't sit still. They like flags too. I like flags, but I had a hard time not getting distracted. There was one man who really took his flag waving seriously. He must have had a dozen different kinds, and he was very practiced in his waving. I had chosen to sit in the front row because I wanted to video tape the guys. This man decided I needed to be greatly impressed with his ability-- made me wonder if he'd missed his calling of joining the circus or something. He had two flags at this point, both on sticks that were about 10 feet long. He was standing probably...10 ft in front of me-- just off center to my left a little, and he started getting serious. He starts whipping this things in a downward motion and I am not kidding you, they were snapping within about 2 inches from my face. I swear I could detect him looking at me out of the corner of his eye seeing if I was duly impressed. He stood there snapping away for at least 5 minutes-- it was hard not to laugh. SNAP... SNAP... SNAP... I felt like those situations where someone is trying to snap you with a towel, and you know if he makes contact he's going to put your eye out. I was trying to focus on the song, but the snapping in my face was making me giggle. But...he was helping out with the hot flash I was having-- the breeze felt nice.
They like shofars too-- those are the ram's horns that you can blow out of and make a pretty cool noise. I'm not sure the significance of blowing one-- but there were at least 20 of them going off at the same time. It did give me goose bumps.

So, interesting day. A good day. I'm going to watch out for those flag flyers though in the future.

  • Christmas

What do you guys think of doing the white elephant gift exchange at Christmas?....or no.....I'm just trying to think of stuff that would be fun. Or we could play snow football and whoever wins gets a trophy made out of toothpicks. Or there's always polo in the field....but we play it on tractors.
